Re: Nodding Lady

In a message dated 98-01-29 15:03:49 EST, you write: << Does anyone know the botanical name for a plant called nodding lady? Not the orchid named nodding lady tresses, this is a tall, tree-like plant with long yellow four o'clock scented flowers hanging down in clusters. >> Sheila, If you haven't found out the information you were looking for I think I can help. I was looking for the same informamtion back in the fall when they were in full bloom and posted my query on seeds and peren list. The Clerodendrum you are looking for is Wallichii. This is an old fashion antique heritage garden plant. It grows 6-10' on a single stalk with elongated spear shaped leaves. The top 1' is filled with long skinny trumpet/ tube shaped cream white flowers with just a hint of burgundy on the inside throat, resembling a single fuschia blossum. Your description of it looking like a 4 O'clock is pretty good. A friend and I found this at an abandoned house in the old part of town here. Southern Perennials & Herbs! call it the Nodding Clerodendrum ( C.nutans or C. wallichii) and describes it as Pendant white flowers at the tips of erect to arching branches. Ht 5-8'. Leaves shiny, about 8" long by 1.5" wide. Native from Assam to the Himalayas. Hardy to 7f, zones 8-11. Let me know if this is what you were looking for. I hope this helps. ---<---<(@ ---<---<(@ CherrylM USDA Zone 8b ---<---<(@ ---<---<(@ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@mallorn.com with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE PERENNIALS
