I've been putting egg shells (unwashed) in my compost for years. They
are very slow to break down.
The worst calamity ? I had a couple of eggs once that I suspected were
rotten and pitched them in whole. Winter went by and I forgot about
them. Come early spring, took out my pitchfork and started turning.
Sure enough, hit those suckers, and rotten eggs squirted everywhere.
Go ahead, do it, you paid for the whole egg !
