Hi Michelle,
I've been reading everyone's posts on where to start and figured I'd add my
own two cents.
Aside from work, shade, wtaer, etc., decide what you like. You have to look
at your garden every day, so be sure to please yourself in the process. Do
you like bright colors, or muted shades? Do you prefer cottage garden,
prairie style, or classic designs? Do you want to add garden decoration
(trellis, birdbath, stones, etc.)?
I'd suggest looking through as many garden-related sites as you can (check
out a lot of online boatnic garden sites), as well as books and catalogs.
See what styles you like, and what you really don't care for. Then try to
focus in on the plantings. Realizing you can't do it all in one year
(unless you've got more time than I do :-)), pick out the basic plants
needed to obtain that look. Then focus on creating the basic style, and
filling the rest in later.
Good luck! Tell us what you decide to do.
Peggy
