Re: pleasing perennial combinations?
Black-eyed susans with opal basil. Now the basil isn't a perennial but
it reseeds so freely it might as well be. I like the coarser, curly leaf
variety. And the two look wonderful together. Pink things like mallow
and thread leaf coreopsis look good with the basil, too.
In my daffodil beds, I have cleome that liberally reseeds. But this year
I'm thinking of sunflowers in the middle, marigolds and cosmo in the
middle and trailing nasturtiums on the edges. Something different to
soak up the summer rains that daff bulbs don't want. And to really
startle the neighbors, I'm thinking of planting some hyacinth bean vines
on a trellis.
