Re: Winter interest- St Louis

I've read what all of you are looking at, at your homes, and feel that I
definately need to do some planning!
My ajuga is bronze and beautiful in front of my family room window, and I have
that terrible place under the birdfeeder where the doves gather to pick at the
dropped seeds! My cardinal family has invited a few friends to over winter
with them, so they are certainly the most colorful objects outside my windows!
I do have a 1/2 whiskey barrel that keeps two goldfish that keeps my busy just
'checking' on them. I used a birdbath heater to keep some of the water
unfrozen, and the pump has gurgled away thru all kinds of snow, sleet and
freezing rain! I have so far resisted from feeding them, my 'pond guy' says
not to feed until the water temp reaches 50 degrees for at least 5 days!
My iris and daffs are sending up shoots, but I know I can't get excited just
yet!
The hosta's are looking pretty bad, and the containers that I planted with
bulbs, have not split in the cold!
My buddelia looked great when dripping with ice, and I can see the new green
shoots starting to emerge.
I really need to plan for more winter interest, but our snow, and freezing
rain makes me a little shy to plant anything I will lose!
