A lot of people around my area plant grasses around their pools. No blooms
that attract bees. I hesitate to suggest any particular variety because I
find that personal tastes vary widely for this category. Best to go to a
garden center and choose what you like or search garden books for ideas on
what you'd want the pool to end up looking like.
The prettiest pool I've seen had hostas and caladiums around it with little
fountains in each of the four corners. The tile used to line the pool was
a deep green with white specks -- very serene. Of course this pool was in
the shade, but it was also in the deep south, so I guess it was warm enough
to place the pool under a canopy of trees.
A local pool I saw had stands of bamboo that were encased on all sides with
concrete to prevent spreading. The bamboo was lush looking and made the
pool look exotic. Yuccas were planted under the bamboo for texture appeal.
