Re: Japanese Anemones


I grow them, Patty.  I have had good luck with them recently, too.  I just
happen to have a catalogue here from a well respected Canadian perennial
specialist who says that A. tomentosa Robustissima is hardy to zone 4, and
that the usual Japanese anemones are hardy to zone 5.  Canadian zones are
just about one zone less than yours with our 5 being your 4, our four your
3.  I know she grows them successfully in zone 4 USDA because I've seen them
in her display garden, but our soil is very sandy and well drained which
often makes a difference in plant survival.  I would try one or two and if
they do well in an average winter, add more.
