I was told here by the plant professionals that if you're trying to get
rid of a tree (like Chinese elm) to spray full strength Round-Up in the
fall when the sap is going back down into the roots, as this will carry
it to the roots.
Was also told to spray the Cambium (sp? inner bark) layer as well to be
most effective.  I used this method on the Chinese elms (1 foot around)
here and they have not yet returned, (Yahoo!).  As for grass and other
plants it will be absorbed through the leaves and transmitted to the
roots.
