I fertilized the tree around the drip line last year with spikes purchased
at a local store, but the leaves still shed. Our soil tends toward clay, and
last year was a bit dry. If I recall correctly, there might well be little
black spots on the leaves (like black spot on roses). We have an exceptional
woman at a local garden center -- I'll take some to her in Spring. Thanks!
