Re: tulip and blue
Hello Barb,
Since both tulips and bluebells are going to go dormant around July, how about
a native that blooms early and has great foliage the rest of the year? I think the
combination of bluebells and Merrybells (Uvularia) is one knock-out combination.
Straw-yellow with hint of lemon, violet-blue bells, foliage of emerging merrybells
is light green and contrast nicely with the purple-black of new bluebell foliage.
My new web site coming up shortly will have a photo of that combination in my
garden.
Another combination I like very much in combining the native with the
non-native is the Red Ridinghood tulip with Jacob's ladder. The tulip is small,
scarlet red and has red in the deep green, broad foliage. Jacob's ladder has lacy
foliage and clouds of pale sky blue blooms with white eyes. Both are reliably
perennial.
