If you have a plant of a named variety, e.g. Dahlia 'Bishop of Llandaff',
it may carry this cultivar name ONLY if it has been asexually propagated
(cuttings, divisions, tissue culture, etc). Seeds of named varieties,
CANNOT retain the cultivar name, even though they may appear similar.
Unfortunately, many growers do not recognize this, which accounts for much
of the variation observed in plants going by the same cultivar name.
Sometimes growers will use the term "seed strain" to refer to a group of
seedlings of similar appearance.
