Hello Bob,
Can you recommend any other dark leaved dahlias please?

It's also offered by Caproz Dahlias and a number of the other larger
specialist companies (sorry, I'm at work and don't have any addresses to
give you). It is by no means the only dark foliaged dahlia to try-or even
the best. I also grow Japanese Bishop, which is a much clearer red (BofLl
has an orangish tint to it). Ferncliff Gardens has a few dark foliaged
plants in their catalogue, and although they are a Canadian company they are
set up to ship to the US (even have an address in Washington state).
Unfortunately B of Ll is "hot" right now, and seems to be selling for around
$7 US per tuber. The other dark foliaged plants are cheaper. Both Japanese
Bishop and Bishop of Llandaff seem to be good reproducers. I started with
one small tuber of each and expect to be able to split them into 3 or 4 good
sized tubers this spring.
You can also try growing a seed strain called "Redskin". I've never done it
but I know of a woman in Australia who has. Flower colour is extremely
variable, but foliage colour appears to be close to 100% dark.
Dahlias are perennials, aren't they? At least if you live close to the
border with Mexico or remember to lift the tubers in the fall. So I guess
this is on topic.
