Paul, I guess I didn't make my point clear here. If you're collecting
species seed, and a different species is nearby, the seed you are collecting
may indeed be a hybrid of the two species. My point was that in this case,
the seed from one plant of the species may be a hybrid and not true to the
species.
You're also right about the case of "improved" species, when there's a lot of
selection going on. I suppose you could also get the reverse case and have
an inferior clone of the species.
