Double flowering geraniums grown from cuttings have improved over the past 15
years since varieties have been cleaned of bacterial wilt and virus. I like
the Americana series from Goldsmith. They are profuse bloomers even in the
heat and withstand wet conditions. They remain compact throughout the growing
season.
Seed geraniums are nice if you need a large area of coverage. I used to hate
to use them for landscaping because of their unsightly seed pods. There are
very few if any double varieties from seed because of the problem of setting
seed on double and semi double flowering lines (the extra petals cut down on
the amount of pollen available for breeding)
