I'm in Oregon, zone 6b/7a.  The one I saw was grown in Canada -- must
have been a warm area.  I wasn't successful in finding much information
on the internet about this tree.  The little I found made it sound like
it may be hard to locate in the US.  Does anyone know of sources?

Where are you from? It is border line here for me... 40 miles south of
Chicago, Zone 5. Some do survive in a protected micro climate area.
Although
this winter, it probably would have done fine- today it was an unheard
of 52
degrees! I know a few people who have them, and they are wonderful to
look
at. Just to expensive for me to try in my open area yard. Maybe in a few
years when I can protect them.
