Actually, I've had this growing in my garden for about 5 years.
Moved it last year to another spot. It is a clump former; nary a
sign of any underground rhizome activity..sturdy root system, but not
spreading. Have also not had any seeding about from it.
Makes a lovely tall shrub like plant, something a bit over 5' tall.
Puts out 4 or 6 sturdy, bamboo-like stems over summer and in late
summer blooms red, changing to white.

I got mine from Plant Delights. Tony said in catalog that it might
seed, but mine has not. Lord only knows how it behaves in PNW.
I'm very fond of this plant. Not for the small garden, really,
unless you want to treat it as a shrub, but it dies back to ground in
winter. If you have space, however, well worth having.
Mine grows in rotted woodchips over clay with gravel in it (from a
backhoe incident we won't discuss). Mine is at the edge of woods;
late afternoon direct light, would not say a lot of sun; probably not
as much as it wants as it tends to lean toward the light and I stake
it to keep it upright.
