Hello All,
The DH has recently gotten the green lawn bug - must be that yuppie kid who
moved in next door. We had the upper lawn stripped, loam added and
reseeded. You know who got to spend hours (well it seemed that way) moving
the sprinkler. It had started to fill in this fall. Still looks like
)&**()! The lower lawn is some grass, clover, dandelions, tons of bird
foot trefoil and a few other weeds that look nice and green and are drought
tolerant. Also good for laying on, play ball, and snoozing between weeding
sessions. Mint has escaped in the back and smells great when mowed. Ditto
for the chives. Creeping Charlie (this is the only name I know this weed
by) is in the heavy shade right behind the house. The climber and sandbox
are back here.
There are more 'grass begone plans' for the next several years, but I need
to wait until Fall 2002 to start. There are just other things to do.
I have a love hate relationship to my squirrels. They raid the bird
feeder, even with their own corn supply. But they leave the garden alone
and there are few things as funny as watching them chase each other on a
snowy day.
As for The Gardener - it reads like an ad for White Flower Farms. Nice
catalog, but they charge $15 for a $3 daylily and I never found them to be
that great on quality.
