Hi all
After seeing a beech hedge at the Niagara School of Horticulture I was
suitably impressed. Unfortunately, the species which seems to be used for
hedges is the European beech (Fagus sylvatica). This is a bit marginal
where I live (Z4 USDA). Now I am thinking of enclosing my new perennial
garden with a hedge (or a fence or a wall...) and I have actually stumbled
across a source for seedling native North American beech (F. grandifolia) at
a pretty reasonable price.
Has anyone ever planted a beech hedge, using F. grandifolia? Do you think it
would work? How far apart would you think they should be planted? Your
comments would be greatly appreciated. The garden, incidentally is going to
be approx 75' by 45'.
Thanks
