I used to receive hundreds of catalogs from this company. They sell some
biological controls, "organic" products and snake oil. I don't get them now,
many went into the trash straight from the mailbox.
They also offer huge couponed discounts for first time purchasers. I think I
saw one of these coupons online recently.
As with all of the organic touted products, some succeed and are very pleased
others find the "shoot and kill" methods do not work so are not so pleased.
GA also sells pathogens. Not many gardeners will see success from inoculating
soils with pathogens or nematodes or other unseen biologicals. It needs
temperature monitoring, matching of pathogen to condition, etc. If your
business is growing you would be more attentive and then might find these
products useful.
I have never found anything that I need in my garden from this company. One
summer a friend and I ordered (with a huge discount, nearly free product)
some Neem. We spent two summers off and on trying to find a good practical
use for Neem. There is half a plastic container still on shelf unused, it
controls nothing in the cold north. Garden's Alive advised that it was
highly effective for JB's and we tried everything from spraying them,
allowing them to swim in pure Neem for weeks, soaking a grub in Neem, other
gruesome things. Never killed one JB. Never killed anything else. I think
we also worked on roses with Neem.
I would say that if you buy a specific product for a specific purpose and you
know what you want to do, it is a source with a large list of products.
Pyrethrum which I keep, rotenone also were sold by the GA when they were hard
to find elsewhere. They are both easy to buy, in my area, now.
It always seemed to me that if one purchased a special fertilizer for each
plant (tomatoes are major with GA), a filing cabinet would be needed to begin
each session in the garden. Somethings, after a while, you just know.
