Hi Donna:
Yes, I've used my Christmas tree (recycling) branches for covering up my
peony beds. It seems to work fine and freezing didn't upheave my plants.
Since we usually had a large tree 9 feet or more I had plenty of branches to
use. But, with getting older I now have an artificial tree. I would start
top or bottom and saw my way down the trunk - actually less mess in dragging
fir needles through the house.
Just took them up and to the recycling pile for shredding in the Spring.
Branches stayed green the rest of the winter.
