little green worms

Bill,

Are they curled into small coils?  And, do they appear early in the season?  
We have something here called a rose slug - green coiled and very small.  
There is only one hatch early in the year and they attack other plants.  By 
the time you realize they are working on a rose bush or another plant, the 
damage is well on the way.  These succumb to almost any spray if you note 
them immediately which means you have to go looking on a bright light day.
