That is very true in my experience. Large leaves such as hosta and hydrangea
attract browsing deer. If they are pleased they stop walking and browsing and
decimate what they like so well. This causes them to return to the same
place the next day. I noticed that a long time ago once thinking you could
protect gardens by planting a row of hydrangeas in the deer path (they follow
the same paths daily).
In the end the answer is a fence by a row of hydrangeas helps a bit.
