Well Walt Zionsville is a sleepy little village outside of Emmas which is
outside of Allentown. Kings Highway runs through Zionsville. We're in
Lehigh County. Actually, we don't live in the village but outside in the
farm lands (well there used to be farm lands when we moved here). Germans
were first settlers out here.
It's the first mountain range before going down into Lehigh Valley.
Actually where Montgomery, Berks and Lehigh join together on your map. My
Dad used to own ground up in Buckingham and we used to gather wild
partridgeberry and moss for his terrariums. Think it was actually called
Buckingham Mountain. So you're not far from us at all. Our temperature
gauge isn't working but I sure know it's cold and windy here today again.
Probably have lost some plants this winter I'm sure. We still have some
snow left (not much) but it is a wee bit of insulation for the plants. This
farm used to be apple orchards and only a few old trees remain. Now it's
down to little less than 7 acres. We keep a few acres in woods (and weeds).
Too many deer here and if I was a hunter could bag a few from my kitchen
porch. Last year was the first year they've been inside my fence line and
ate buds off the daylilies. Told my hubby I was going to become a hunter.
hee hee My neighbor below us can't keep daylilies because of the deer
population. Always kid her about buying some more daylilies. They've even
eaten her holly trees.
Have a good day everyone dreaming of that first warm day in Spring!
Kate
