RE: smells/winter blooms

I, too, can smell my sarcococca rusicfolia all over the garden, but the most powerful of all in bloom in my garden is the chimonanthes -- smells nearly tropical.

Here in Oregon I have in bloom: sasanqua camellias, witch hazel, winter jasmine, winter honeysuckle, viburnum bodnantense and the two above-mentioned plants. Gives one heart that spring IS coming!

Speaking of good smells.......
We are having typical maritime winter weather except its pretty warm.
Supposed to be 60F this afternoon. A little bit of fine mist (we call it
Oregon Sunshine :)) with the air very still. I can smell my Sarcococca
confusa which is in full bloom way across the yard from the deck. Must be
40 ft or so. It reminds me of Gardenia fragrance right now. The Viburnum
pink Dawn is smelling very good too, but I have to get closer to it to
appreciate it. OF course neither one of them smells like chocolate, but a
good fragrance is surely appreciated in mid winter.

Hi Group,
I'm enjoying the posts, just a few days behind on reading them.
My son gave me a couple of pieces off his "sharry baby"orchid, and believe me
they smell the whole room up smelling like chocolate!
Everyone who walked in my livingroom asked what it was!
I also have grown the chocolate mint (it does spread well,I'm always sharing
it with others!)and the berlandii,(its in its second year and hopefully will
bloom for me this time!)and the chocolate cosmos as well.
I'm on the lookout for fragrant dianthus plants as well,so if anyone knows
of good fragrant varieties...let me know too..I am going to buy the rose du
mai...I know that a nursery I buy from (canyoncreek nursery)in Calif offers
many dianthus so I will buy some from him as well, and he does offer this
variety as I looked in the catalog.
I love fragrant plants and heirlooms as well.
Have a great weekend everyone!
