I have grown the variegated Solomon's seal for about 15 years and never have
more than 5 stalks. However, they never come up in the same spot so I am
guessing that the current year's growth dies back each year (Zone 6a) and the
next year's 5 stalks are the new ones, having traveled a bit. They do get dry
in the summer--maybe that's the problem with mine. It is a lovely plant
though and I would be very unhappy if it died out altogether.
