I, too, start seeds in the basement (the cool basement is good) on a
plastic-sheet-covered wood door propped up on each end by inexpensive
metal shelves (the desk from grad student days) with fluorescent lights
suspended on gate chains from the ceiling joists. For bottom heat I use
heating pads from the drug store-$10 @, covered well in plastic bags,
set on "low" under the plastic flats (each set-up has two flats, one
with drainage slots, the other with none). Cannot get those pads wet!
For the last 2 years, I've used newspaper pots made with that maple
wood pot former you may have seen in the catalogs--real cheap! BUT, I do
have trouble with algae and molds forming on the paper despite a fan.
What spray fungicide do you use, Lara? What do others use for fungus
problems?
