I think that it was on Victory Garden where it was suggested that the
only way to get a fence to deter deer was to have two fences, one about 4
feet inside the other. They seem to be afraid of getting trapped between
the two.
If you have enough sun, you may consider planting cleome. When anything
brushes against cleome it smells like skunk. It also has a few thorns on
the stems and is a good re-seeder. I understand that our ancestors used
it in old graveyards to keep deer from knocking over headstones.
