No, it's not Papaver orientale, the proper name for Oriental Poppies.
Shirley Poppies are Papaver rhoeas. The newest variety of P. rhoeas is
'Angels Choir'. Love it; I don't know how I ever did without it. 'Mother
of Pearl' is another P. rhoeas that's been around a bit longer. These are
annuals.

It was a good question. Besides, they reseed so freely some people think
that they are perennial. And they're good cover plants in the perennial
border, so it's relevent.
