Another combo you might try in shade is an assortment of hosta, blood grass,
and an assortment of coleus.  I had all of the above in a bed with Pieris
japonica, a low spreading yew, a variety of azaleas and a cherry laurel.
This is underplanted with scilla and daffs.  Was an area that I hated until
I found this combination.  The coleus really perked the entire bed up.  Now,
it's one of my favorite gardens.
