I have grown Knautia. I have read that it is one of the most underused plant
in the perennial garden. I have only heard good things about it. My Knautia is
long gone because of my constant transplanting things many years ago when I
first started gardening. I keep meaning to get some more. Now you have
reminded me!
I live in Connecticut and it was never "weedy" here and I do not remember it
reseeding.
The write-up I have is in the Natureworks catalog from 1998 and it says in
part, " Starts blooming in June, goes till fall, self sows (I don't remember
mine doing this, but-) butterflies love it! All it needs is occasional
deadheading and a second feeding in July to keep it going. A "must have" plant
for any sunny garden."
Well, I'm sold. Anything that blooms from June to October is a hit for me-even
if it does self-sow. It's on my list Myrna, how about you?
