>What kind of veggies do you grow? Are you a market gardener?
Margaret L
Thanks for the suggestions re: vegetable gardening lists.....
I grow everything! But only for person (or friends) use. I'm assuming that
by "market gardening" you are asking if I sold produce at a farmer's market?
Nope, not so far.
Last year I grew: 4 varieties of potatoes, acorn squash, zucchini squash,
pumpkins, bush beans, three var. of vining peas, sugar snap peas, sweet
corn, "Indian" corn, popcorn, carrots, cucumbers (bush), shallots, garlic,
sweet onions, leeks, lettuce (three var. including a mesclun blend),
radishes (two var.), broccoli, tomatoes (three standard var., one golden,
one cherry), sunflowers, and ornamental gourds.
I also grew several herbs: basil, parsley, chamomile, chives, rosemary,
thyme, sage (three types), summer savory, oregano, and peppermint.
We eat as much of the fresh produce as possible right after it's picked. I
blanched and froze bags of beans, peas, corn, and carrots, and froze
portions of seeded tomatoes for sauce. Herbs were either frozen or dried.
Some vegies were also dried for use in camping and backpacking meals.
Potatoes, squash, shallots, onions, and garlic are in burlap in the garage.
Sunflower seeds were roasted (some were left for the birds). etc.......
I use intensive, wide-row methods in raised beds. My garden is 100%
organic.
