When I was young I helped my father keep a worm-bed.  He kept raised boxes
under the rabbit pens and would water them down every-so-often.  Now and then
he sprinkled lime on top.  The pens were supported by a garage type roof that
he made.  It made great compost also.

I grew prize-winning vegetables by planting fish into the ground first.
