One of our Daffodil Society members is pretty certain that some mushroom
compost introduced basal rot to one of his daffodil beds. However, that's in
California and he has some difficulty with his location avoiding this bulb
disease anyway. Here in SW Ohio I haven't seen that problem with mushroom
compost. One person told me that mushroom compost is usually treated, either
chemically or with steam before it is sold. Others have said that every
trucking company does it differently and they'd be surprised if most of them
treated at all.

All I can tell you is that everything I plant in beds with mushroom compost
flourish. But I guess like nearly everything else in life there is a degree
of risk.
