In this regard, I have done this: I had a brace (as in brace and bit) I
very seldom used, and one of the soil augurs that I used with my electric
drill. I now have the augur permanently fastened in the brace and use it.
After drilling down several inches, I manually pull the augur up and clean
off the soil. The holes are small, but a couple of them together plus some
reaming with a big screwdriver usually does the job.
