I live in So Cal near the ocean and notice this phenomenon occurs here
regularly with nearly every daylily. As the season progresses, the
colors become darker and more saturated. On Lady Neva the chevrons of
dark red hardly show up at all until it has been blooming over a month.
Same with Bird's Eye; the halo doesn't show up until about early June
even though it has been blooming for months prior to that. Also, the
scapes on most of the daylilies are taller with each successive scape.
Hi, Claire:
I read with interest the above comment as I had noticed in early June
that
our H. 'Stella D'Oro' s brassy gold highlights were absent in the cool
weather - they were a lovely lemon yellow and now are their usual brassy
selves as the heat's been turned up. Has anyone else noticed this?
