The description in that hyperlink also alluded that the purple color is
not complete throughout the entire plant. The cultivar I have is
thoroughly purple -- leaves, stems, etc. It's a dull purple, like
"bronze" fennel, not glossy like purple-leaved Ajuga. I have it growing
in a partial sun bed; perhaps it's full sun that fades out the color?
I snip the blooms because I generally don't care for yellow flowers. A
few daylilies, like 'Hyperion', is all the yellow I can handle. ;-)
