Campsis radicans blooms on new wood, so you can prune it after bloom and any
time up until new growth starts in the spring. After that point, you risk
taking out flower buds.
I wouldn't recommend early fall trimming - winter damage for tender growth.
To be honest, the only year the monster next door did not bloom is when our
then-neighbor tried to kill it in June.
