Re: Inside news/ Holbrook nursery

Hello Barbara,
I was a one-man band around here until about 3 years ago.. now we are a two
person symphony. But that is it. I simply do not want to take on more at this
point in my life We are as big as we intend to get. Period. I realize this flies
in the face of conventional business theory and practice.. i.e.. one must
continually grow in size, go stagnate or die.
If we take on employee(s), then we have to sell more to pay for them, which
means more work for us all. Not to mention a whole new set of rules and regs from
Feds and State. I simply do not feel it is all worth it. I would rather try to
work smarter, not harder.
We have a wonder little nursery here that is by appointment only. When you
come here you are the only one here unless you bring friends with you. You get all
the attention and time you need to look at plants and talk about your garden. We
have a nice little display garden and nursery display area. We will also ship if
you cannot visit. I know of few nurseries in the area operating along these lines.
I also do slide presentations for garden clubs and organizations, write for a
gardening magazine on a monthly basis and maintain my web site, hard copy catalog.
We have out hands full, but at this point we are having fun with what we do...
hard work and long hours, but fun. We actually enjoy what we do.
We have seriously considered an employee, full or part time, but we also live
in the middle of our operations and enjoy our privacy as much as we enjoy the
public. We simply do not want another person here on a regular basis.
We are trying to have our live the way we want it, rather than how it is
supposed to be. Thus far it is working. Thanks for the interest.
