First, I have to say I am heartbroken over what has happened to Pam, so
please, no responses accusing me of lack of sympathy, denial, supportive of
the maintenance crew, supportive of unfeeling bureaucracy, etc.
But my hackles rose to read the message below (plus reading the answering
post on the bulletin board). It is utterly irresponsible to post that she
has been poisoned by "something like Agent Orange." The emotional impact
of those two words are such that hysteria will inevitably result, both on
Pam's part and on the part of well-meaning individuals that want to help her.
Pam has so far done a good job by researching the chemicals used, and
keeping notes on the events that occurred. She needs at this point to
document, with as much accuracy as possible, what the effect has been on
her land (what has died, how far does the "kill zone" extend), herself
(medical evidence from a doctor), her pets (ditto), and details of her
rights with regard to the power right of way. She has done a good job of
documenting her emotional distress, but now she needs to be factual and
calm and unemotional.
As should we.
