Gerry,
Am trying to catch up myself after a couple weeks of hubby being
pretty ill and getting even farther behind with email than I usually
am:-)
Actually am quite fond of my R. nitida 'Herbstonne'. It is not happy
this year as I moved it, thinking I'd be able to give it more room
and light as it needed heavy staking where I had it - in a fair
amount of high shade and it's really a sun lover. Deer found it and
munched it back to the ground several times. It is recovering, but
damp weather brought on major slug attack. At this point, am just
hoping poor thing survives....it is a shadow of its former self.
Probably should have left it where it was because the deer never
bothered it there...sigh.
In prior years, has reached about 7 or 8 feet tall and bloomed with
lovely clear yellow flowers with a dark green cone center - really,
really nice flower color and I'm not a huge yellow flower fan. It is
a late bloomer - normally, mine would start flowering this month and
continue through the rest of summer, so yours, if it will bloom this
year, should do so....do you see any signs of flower buds?
Would highly recommend this one for those with sufficient space for a
very tall plant....great back of the border material.
