To be honest, I just pull what grass I can get and mulch well.
Bad infestations rate Roundup, *very* selectively applied. Monster
infestations -- and I've had one -- rate digging out the daylilies, rinsing
off the roots so I can get the last bit of grass hiding amongst those roots,
and moving them to a holding bed temporarily. Then I go over their normal
homespace to root out the last invader over the next few days. I use a rake
to get out all the filigree grass rootlets...rakes are root magnets. Then I
add compost, peat moss or any other goodies I can get in there and move the
daylilies back in...mulch well...and stand back. They do grow. <grin>
