Hello Perennial List,
Since I penned that piece on loosestrife I have picked up my mail. There in
one of the nursery magazines is a newsitem "LOOSESTRIFE BANNED IN NEBRASKA
IN 2001".
Further down it says that all cultivars, selections, varieties of the species
L. salicaria and L. virgatum cannot be legally possessed by landowners in
Nebraska. This includes a rarity called Lythrum virgatum 'Feurekerze'.
So...............if you live in Nebraska!
Also stated in the news release is the requirement of Nebraskans "by law to
effectively control noxious weeds" on their properties.
This is a decree of Gov. Mike Johanns and applies in 2001 to all citizens of
Nebraska.
If the Gov. only lived in my rural town and tried this procedure. One of
those guys with a big dog tied to a doghouse by the front door would change
his mind quickly. Woodchucks is what they call them here but they do
maintain their independence.<VBG>
