Just received a perennials catalogue with an illustration of a plant with
leaves such as you describe: it is named 'Persicaria virginiana "Lance
Corporal" - 55cm - chartreuse green leaves marked maroon red (8-9).' The
picture shows leaves are lime-green with no variation; maroon colour
mentioned is in chevron form and looks striking in contrast; the figures in
brackets indicate flowering months but there's no indication of flower
colour. The Mail Order Only nursery is called Four Seasons, and claims to
give more notes, advice and pictures on its web-site
(www.fsperennials.co.uk). E-mail: contact@fsperennials.co.uk Plant names
are based on RHS Plant Finder, and indeed there are three named suppliers in
that currently, one of which holds the national polygonum collection.
Incidentally, P. virg. "Painter's P." is described, too, but is as everyone
has noted not the same. Hope this helps. Yours looks pretty, and well named!
Avril.
