blue flower

Hello all,
Could someone please tell me the name of the small blue flower growing
along the side of many country roads and even some city streets. It
seems to open during the sun light hours and close in the evening. It is
between 18 and 24 inches tall and is a straggly, sparse plant. On a
recent trip I noticed it not only in Indiana, Ohio, Penn. and even up to
the coast of New Jersey.

Do any of you plant it in your perennial flower gardens? Does it spread
and become unmanageable? This time of year I need some thing to
compliment the black eye susan
