Re: blue blue flowers

Betty, Western New York, Zone 5

My blue flax began in the spring; a gorgeous thing to behold. But then they
began dying. I pulled one out and discovered a bunch of gray buggythings
munching on the roots, or so I gather. I had found these in a container
planted with pansies, and last year feeding on roots to my old-fashioned
bleeding hearts. What in the world are they -- does anyone know? How can
they be dealt with, without resorting to high powered chemicals?

I did remove by hand those that had infested the container of pansies, which
recovered and are blooming their hearts out for me right now.

Back to the flax: there is one plant that escaped the onslaught by these
round gray bugs and it looks wonderful.
