Louise,
Just received a message from my shy friend Tom C., who says that "The
species is Allium hollandicum. Seeds germinate only at 39ºF (4ºC)."
Given this, you could sow now and place in the fridge or probably
hold the seed and sow in autumn as temps start to fall...
Of course, if your seed is ripening now, you could sow now and leave
outside as that is what would happen in nature...what you'd be doing
is simply placing the seed in a safer situation, where they would not
be eaten or dried out.
