Hi Gene - of course I didn't keep the label for the yellow Aconitum
(tsk) - the leaves are incised, though not as deeply as napellus. The
leaves are a nice clump but the flower stems are pretty lax - though I
find that some plants after a couple years of growth stiffen up some.
Will let you know about the color when the buds have opened - I'm hoping
for a yellow more on the cream side than gold. Something seems to be
nibbling on the leaves - I thought Aconitum were pretty pest-free.
Two of my phlox (a white and a deep lavender) are 'meadow' phlox and are
species, I believe. They never mildew (losing a brown leaf at the
bottom here and there but nothing unsightly) and will bloom from now
into September at least. I divided 3 clumps into 9 this spring, all of
which seem to thrive on the division. I also have 'Bright Eyes', no
mildew, heavy bloom, great health, and one plant of 'Starfire', such a
wonderful red, but not as vigorous as the others. Also have a lavender
with a white eye, 'Katherine', that's in its second year and doing very
well also. Odd how plant performance varies so much from year to year,
depending on conditions - adds another element of surprise to gardening
(in addition to adding to our ongoing education about plants).
Almost 2 inches of rain here this week also, but we could use much more.
At least some relief from the heat for a few days - hurray. More later.
