'She' seems to do all right with mildew. Mine is in a fairly sunny location
without much stuff around it, so I might not be a good indicator. At the
Master Gardener's Display Garden at U of I (where I was first introduced
to this plant) it's a lot more overgrown and still seems to hold its
own, though.
I actually bought mine at Lowe's, of all places. I rarely find any good
plants there, but every once in a blue moon they'll have something really
nice. In fact, I just bought a whole bunch of Painted Japanese ferns
and Maidenhair ferns from them in gallon-size pots for about $4.00 each!
