Subject: Mosquito repellant
I nearly ripped the pierced earrings out of my earlobes while swatting
mosquitoes as I was deadheading the Salvia and Veronicas last week, so it was
with great interest that I read the following in the recent issue of Avant
Gardener (July 2002, Vol. 34, No. 9):
"Crush fresh catnip leaves and rub them on your skin and you will have a
mosquito repellant ten times as effective as Deet, reports Iowa State
University [Ames, IA, 50010)..."
I'm off to buy a catnip plant...as I recall, my last one was a rather large,
lax, plant in two years time.
