Before you post anybody's article on a website or mailing list such as this
one, let me suggest you ensure that you have the author's permission to do
so. Copyright violation is a serious issue to writer's and posting without
permission is indeed a violation of copyright. >>
This article appeared on several AOL gardening areas, including AOL's coverage
of the NYTimes features. There is no caution regarding the pasting of the
article elsewhere. While Mr. Green is an author and should properly be
concerned with the internet publication of privately his copyrighted
materials, this article was not privately copyrighted. Anyone on AOL could
have seen it in a truncated version easily all over the web. One person had
it all together and that was easier than posting bits and pieces. If you
write to me privately, I have Mr. Druse's address and can put you in touch
with him. I am absolutely postive he would be delighted to be seen and known
by gardeners. He is a writer intending to sell books and and has two very
good books on market. One is the "Collector's Garden" and the other is
"Making More Plants" (on propagation). He gardens in New Jersey and opens
his garden for tours from time to time. This article could only serve to make
him better known and assist in the sale of his books. He also has some books
on native plants that I have not found as useful. He is a very gentle man
and interested in outreach to gardeners.
Newspaper articles are generally agreed to be public infomation and can be
found in the research facilities of any library. We are fortunate, at least
I think I am - must be age- to have the web at our disposal. Saves many
trips to the library. A trip to the library could have netted this article
in twenty different places.
There maybe legalities attached to pieces of writing but this piece was
circulated worldwide on AOL via the web and it's association with the
NYTimes. The NYTimes is also circulated worldwide. I bought a copy of it in
Anactica last January. AOL prints most of the feature articles to AOL
members. If you are not on this server you may not know this. If you are
on other servers you may have to register for articles or if in Canada you
may have to pay for them.
